Equal Employment & Nondiscrimination Statement
The Town is committed to a policy of nondiscrimination in employment and is committed to be free from such practices as discrimination, sexual harassment or any other undesirable conduct. The Town provides equal employment opportunity on the basis of fitness and job-related qualifications, without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, political affiliation, disability, gender, age, or any other status protected by federal or state law, except where such criteria is a Bona fide Occupational Qualification ("BFOQ"). There is no BFOQ for race. The Town of Front Royal is an equal opportunity employer and encourages all qualified persons to apply for open positions.
Drug & Alcohol Free Workplace
Front Royal maintains a drug and alcohol free workplace. To assist in achieving that goal, all prospective employees are required to submit to and pass a pre-employment, post-offer physical examination and drug screen, paid for by the Town of Front Royal. Only those employees required to hold a Commercial Driver's License are subject to random drug and alcohol screens. This is in accordance with federal law. All employees are subject to drug and/or alcohol screens in the event of an accident ("post accident") or if management has reasonable suspicion that the employee is under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs ("reasonable suspicion").
How to Apply for Employment
The Town of Front Royal only accepts applications online through our website. A summary of the job description and skill requirements can be found by selecting the job that you are interested in pursuing. If this is your first time applying online, you will need to create an account and select a Username and Password. After your account has been established, you can complete an application by selecting the "Apply for this Position" link found at the bottom of the job description.
An employment application kiosk is available on the 2nd floor of the Town Administration Building. We are happy to assist any who need guidance using the kiosk.
Employment Selection Process
All applications received are reviewed by the employing department. The Department Director of the employing department and other staff review the applications and determine who will be interviewed. There is no minimum or maximum limit to the number of applicants selected for a personal interview.
After interviews are completed, the Department Director forwards the ranking of the applicants to the Human Resources Department. The Human Resources Department prepares an "Offer of Employment" letter and forwards it to the Town Manager for his approval and signature. The Town Manager is the only person authorized to extend a bonafide job offer to anyone. Without the Town Manager's express approval, no one may be employed. The "Offer of Employment" letter contains, at minimum, the following information:
- The position title being offered
- The compensation offered, in hourly and/or annual rates
- The department the position is assigned
- Other "terms and conditions." Other "terms and conditions" will include, among other things, submitting to and passing a pre-employment, post-offer physical examination, drug screening and background check, paid by the Town. Certain positions will also be subject to a "Training Cost Reimbursement Agreement."
