The Department is responsible for both "in-house" design projects and coordination of projects developed by the Virginia Department of Transportation and Town engineering consultant firms. Projects initiate in the Preliminary Design Phase where general project limits, requirements, impacts, and costs are identified. The project then proceeds to the Final Design Phase where details associated with the project are resolved, and final construction plans are produced for advertisement. Public meetings, right-of-way acquisition, or other necessary events occur throughout the development of the project.

Neighborhood Initiative Program |
The Department has initiated a program to identify Public Works related issues in the community before they become larger problems within the neighborhood. Staff will field walk one section of Town each month looking for items that required repair or attention. Issues not directly related to Public Works will be forwarded to the appropriate Department to deal with those issues. The Zone Map shows the twelve sections and the scheduled dates for the field walks. |
