FIRE HYDRANT FLUSHING
The Town of Front Royal will begin flushing hydrants throughout the community on October 5, 2008 – October 10, 2008 between the hours of 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.
The hydrant flushing could cause some temporary discoloration of the drinking water; however the water is safe to drink. To clear the water, a cold tap should be turned on and allowed to run until it clears. The water should also be checked for discoloration before running it into the washing machine.
Periods of low water pressure may be experienced during the hydrant flushing. The Water Division has asked that residents, especially drivers, take extra care during this time and take into account the possibility of water on the roadways.
The purpose of hydrant flushing is to clean the water mains and to check the mechanical condition of the fire hydrants.
