Located in the northwestern corner of Virginia, 70 miles west of Washington, D.C., Front Royal is one of many towns included in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley. The Shenandoah River and the Entrance to the Shenandoah National Park and Skyline Drive are located in this historical town, as well as a welcoming Downtown Area where the Front Royal-Warren County Visitors Center is located.

The Downtown Area is part of Front Royal's Historic District that includes a variety of architectural styles from the mid-1700s to the mid-1900s. Excellent examples of Queen Anne, Gothic Revival, Classic Revival, Italianate and Colonial Revival architecture is found along Main Street. However, some of the oldest building in the Town are located along Chester Street, which include examples of regional, vernacular and federal style architecture. The Ivy Lodge (c. 1825-1858), located at 101 Chester Street, is the headquarters of the Warren Heritage Society and the location of the Town and County history museum. At the museum you will find free exhibits, walking tour information, historic archives and tickets to visit historic homes in the Town.
